Annie was the cook on the Krug Ranch before she married Charles in 1900. Her old recipes inspire our ranchhand breakfasts. Like Annie, we bake from scratch for breakfast -- bread, scones, sourdough English muffins. We were lucky to have access to her cookbooks and now use some of her old recipes. Even today's cowboys enjoy:

Mix and resift:
2 cups cake flour
4 tsps baking powder
1 tsp salt
Add 3 egg yolks
1-3/4 cups evaporated milk
1/2 cup oil

Foil in 3 stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in hot oiled waffle iron.
