Leavenworth, the first city established in Kansas, overlooks the Missouri River on the border between Kansas and Missouri in the Heartland of America near the geographical center of the United States. As such, four distinct seasons fill the days with sunshine and make the area an appealing place to live and visit. Generally you will enjoy warm to hot summers and cool to cold winters. Storms brew up rapidly in Kansas, but move on just as quickly. Kansas City is a convenient 30 to 45 minutes away to the south by automobile and is rich in historical, cultural, and entertainment activities. |
Nearby Fort Leavenworth is home to the Army's Command and General Staff College and is considered to be the most important Army installation outside of the Pentagon. Fort Leavenworth was once the gateway to the frontier for westward travelers on the Sante Fe and Oregon Trails.
