Bed & Breakfasts: Hurricane Status

Alabama | Louisiana | Mississippi | Texas

Alabama
Bay Breeze Bed & Breakfast, Fairhope, Alabama
The house is fine, but we have lost almost all of our pier! We are now rebuilding our pier. (9/8/05)
Church Street Inn, Fairhope, Alabama
Church Street Inn is fine and is open for business! (8/30/05)
Montrose Hideaway Bed-and-Breakfast Retreat, Montrose "Daphne", Alabama
We survived Hurricane Katrina, have power and phone, so we can take your reservation. (8/30/05)
Riverhouse Bed & Breakfast, Theodore, Alabama
We just received power 2 days ago. We are currently cleaning the mess with 5.5 to 6 feet of water in the lower floor. All I can say is there are others in more need than myself. I am hoping to open to FEMA employees in a week or so. (9/7/05)
Louisiana
Lapont Guest House, Lacombe, Louisiana
The Lapont Guest House had seven feet of water, lost only one tree, and the boathouse is sinking in the middle. The entire house will have to be gutted and rebuilt. We are unsure of the time factor in these repairs. (9/21/2005)
Mildred Fishe Guest Cabin, Lacombe, Louisiana
The Mildred Fishe Guest Cabin sustained wind and flood damage beyond repair. Walls ripped off, some trees down, pump house and A/C gone, inside walls completely demolished and the boat house is missing some of its support. We will have to eventually have it bulldozed and then we have no idea for rebuilding plans at this time. (9/21/05)
1830 Dauphine House Bed & Breakfast, New Orleans, Louisiana
I am one of the lucky ones! I evacuated early, but a friend who stayed behind has checked on the B&B and says that it suffered NO flooding! Not from the hurricane or the levee break! (My place is about a block outside the French Quarter.) I guess my gutters blew off, but that is it. Not sure when I will return - it depends on how fast the cleanup goes.
A Quarter Esplanade Bed & Breakfast, New Orleans, Louisiana
Because of Hurricane Katrina we have evacuated and are temporarily out of business. Please be patient as we learn more of our options. We left quickly and without records but intend to contact everyone who holds a reservation. Despite the fact that we do not have a business, we do value our relationship with you and will be in touch.
Arts Bed and Breakfast, New Orleans, Louisiana
Due to good fortune, the Arts B&B suffered only minimal damage from the hurricane and we anticipate opening for business as soon as power is restored to our community. For those of you in need of short or extended stays, we have availability. To contact us, please leave a voice message (only) at (800)209-6667. Also try our cell phone (504)296-5253, though this may prove difficult. We are able to receive email at hosts@ArtsBandB.com Eric and Indra (9/20/05)
Ashton's Bed & Breakfast, New Orleans, Louisiana
Due to the tragic events that are cutting off access to New Orleans, Ashton’s Bed & Breakfast will close until we are allowed to return. We will reopen as soon as possible. If you have a future reservation with Ashton’s B&B, please understand that we currently do not have access to our guest management files or our credit card equipment. Please rest assured that we will work with you to reschedule your visit or make arrangements to refund your deposit. It will take us some time to get back on our feet however, so we would deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time. We will be in touch as soon as we can. (9/3/05)

We plan to be operational as soon as possible. Keep trying our toll-free number to reconfirm your existing reservation or to make a new one. (9/3/05)
Bohemian Armadillo Guest House, New Orleans, Louisiana
We are alive and well in Austin Texas. There are a lot of people from New Orleans, that need your prayers. We are still searching for our neighbors, friends, and loved ones that we have not heard from. As far as our guesthouse, the Bohemian Armadillo is still up (yes, the 20% of the city that is not flooded). That is all we know. As soon as we have clearance to do so, we will head back to rebuild our guesthouse, and our city, from the inside out. We are a strong bunch. Heartbroken, but we are fine. Thanks to everyone for your support. When we fix our city, we will once again, welcome you with open arms. I cannot wait for that day. Love, Rachel & Eric Walton (9/12/05) Click here for an interview with Rachel on NPR - Bed and Breakfast Owner Hopes to Rebuild

The G.W. Nesom House sustained roof damage and we lost some of our fruit and pecan trees, but thank goodness none fell on the house. We did not have power for a week, very little fresh water or water pressure, we were running out of food and what little ice we could find melted rather quickly in the heat index of 100-110 degrees. Gasoline became almost non-existant. We were the lucky ones! My heart truly goes out to those of us that were not so fortunate. We have done what we could to share shelter, food and water with all we could, but there are so many! (9/7/05)

Oakdale Farms Bed and Boarding Stables, Brandon "Jackson area", Mississippi
One month ago, the unthinkable occurred. Hurricane Katrina blew through both Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana with all her strength and might. We all know it took out basically the whole Gulf Coast area of both Mississippi and much of Louisiana, but it also managed to find its way up here as far as the Jackson, MS area. We were all without power MANY days, trying to house many displaced people, some having horses and the rest horseless lost souls, searching for a dry, comfortable place to call "Home" if only for a few days.

Even with no power and scorching high temperatures during that week, everyone "got along" amazingly well, pitched in and helped each other, and basically made the best of a bad situation. Sometimes God has a way of telling us that everything will be all right, we just need to remember "Him" when our troubles are too much to bear!

Anyway, Oakdale Farms is now up and running at full speed. We have one room we are not renting out long term, so if anyone needs a short term stay, please call upon us here. (10/1/2005)

Moss Point Oaks Bed & Breakfast, Moss Point "Pascagoula area", Mississippi
Moss Point Oaks is fine. We are sheltering 2 homeless families in our rooms upstairs, and running "relief central" downstairs for crews coming in to help put the coast back together. We do not have bedrooms downstairs. We have moved out the furniture, borrowed air mattresses and sleeping bags from neighbors, and are offering a place to sleep, shower and eat to work crews willing to sleep on the floor. We just said goodbye this morning to 2 crews. We had a disaster relief crew from Isle of Palms, SC who helped our city until the National Guard arrived to take over, and we had a relief group from a church in Flowery Branch, GA who came down with food, water, meds, etc and went into Gulfport and Biloxi each day assisting and distributing food. They were the advance scouting party for some 80 volunteers due to return on Monday. We have been greatly blessed and just want to be a blessing to others here. (9/7/05)
Harbour Oaks Inn, Pass Christian, Mississippi
The Inn is closed as a result of Hurricane Katrina, and more information will be available shortly. (9/6/05)
The Blue Rose Inn & Restaurant, Pass Christian, Mississippi
The Blue Rose Inn, Pass Christian, MS is still standing and we are all alive! (9/6/05)
Texas
Fortuna Bay Bed & Breakfast, Corpus Christi, Texas
We were spared from the bad weather hurricane Rita brought to Texas and Louisana. We feel so blessed. We are open for business as usual as of Monday, Sept 26th 2005. (9/26/05)
Hoopes' House, Rockport, Texas
The Hoopes House Bed & Breakfast dodged another monster storm. We are up and running. We hope all is well with other B&Bs that might not have had such luck as we did. We are extremely fortunate. God Bless. (9/26/05)
